The Beginning of Madness

YEARS before he was a famous slaver, years before his known cruelty...years before he was the Voodoo Master, Jori Basker was born a bastard child to a random woman who was rapped by a pirate who invade her town and she was left with the result of the act. Once the child was born she dumped him at an orphanage on the island called 'Palm island', which was known for coconut farms and sugarcane plantations. At the age of 14 he was out with the other boys helping getting coconuts down on one of the farms to 'earn their keep'. Jori was always been....a over- confident boy and fearless, NO one and nothing scared him and none could understand how he didn't have any.

The head master of the orphanage was partially irritable with him and spotted him just being lazy under a plan tree, "OI! Get up you lazy little shit!" he shouted, while the other kids stood at attention in worry, one was not concerned.

Jori ignored the old mans griping and stayed relaxed* "You're blocking the sun old man, move it, I just got comfortable *around him was half eaten coconuts, he had drank the milk already*

He growled and grabbed Jori by the top of his tight curly hair, "YOU LITTLE SHIT!" he pulled him along and got him pressed against another palm and with the whipping cane in hand, got hitting on Jori's back repeatedly, leaving RED marks on his light mocha skin.

Jori-growled but didn't exert any signs of pain and just turned annoyed* You're starting to lose your strength..I barely felt that *He bluffed, it hurt like hell but the pain instead just fulled his defiance

He growled and smacked him right int he back of his head, HARD. "YOU are going to the hot box." he pulled him from the ground and back to the orphanage. He shoved him into the tiny shack with and no room to sit, only to stand and it was midday already. "You're stay there until night fall." he glared at him and locked the door.

The Hot Box had become a second room to Jori, inside the walls were little doodles he had drawn as well as tic marks for the hours or times he's been in, he'd forgotten which, however the intense conditions helped build his tolerance, and only strengthened him in the end.

Jori smirked* I'll be ready for the real world soon...there's nothing really left for me here other then nagging people who just want to get in my way.

"Hey!" whispered a voice, it was one of the Boys, named Frank or Frankie, who had been dropped at the orphanage the same time as Jori and they grew up together, but Frank followed Jori's orders. "Here." he slipped a piece of dried pork to him through the gap and ran off before the head master came to check.

Jori smirked* I owe you one Frankie *he started to eat it* mmm I was hungry too...I Think it's almost time.

Frank came back when he saw it was clear, "Jori... should we do it?" he asked at the back of the box. It was an hour off from full sunset.

Jori-if the coast is clear yes, pop the lock and lets get out of here, tired of taking orders from these buffoons

"I've got the bag we've been packing for." he told him. For the last few months, Frank and Jori had been sneaking out at night and pick pocketing drunk people and sorting dried fish and meat for when they made their escape. They planned to get on a the next out boat to another island and get away from Palm Island.

Jori-somewhere out there Frankie is our calling, something we're going to be better at the anyone else, but it isn't on this shit whole Island, I can tell you

Frank had got snuck into the headmaster's office and took the extra key and got the unlock undone and opened the door, "Then let's go!!!" he laughed an grabbed the bag and the two boys ran off towards the docks.

Jori had stolen enough money to get the both of them passage off the Island, they quickly reached the dock and boarded the first ship off and as soon as it left the island they both breathed a sigh of relief* Thats it...*He smirked looking back at their old home* Rotten place...if I ever come back here it'll be just to show off how better I have it.

Frank and Jori stayed on the deck of the ship wanting to watch the Island disappear, never planning to go back...EVER. Frank shook his head, "NO way, i'de burn the the orphanage down and take over the plantations." he laughed. "But where is this boat going anyway?" he asked Jori.

Jori-no idea, we'll figure it out when we get there, adapt and overcome like we always do

"Sounds like adventure to me!" laughed Frank, "We need to get our OWN ship!" he said, "go where we wanna go!!"

Jori-go where we want to go, do what we want to do, no one else telling us a thing. In charge of ourselves now. Hell...maybe give ordering others around for once

"Maybe get a crew?!" he said with excitement, "Where ever we go we'll find it! WHOOOO!!" he said at the sailed on off into the blue yonder to a new place.

A few months later

Jori and Frankie had become thieves, they'd managed to keep from getting caught as well as have enough to live comfortably for a little while.

They were young and small enough that they were able to avoid the police and guards, laughing the whole time they ran off. They made a little hide out in an abandoned house just outside of town they made hammocks and had their goods all stored. "This place has been worth it!"

Jori- I told you this would work out, we should check out the other side of the island, here there's a creepy cave with "Bones"...bound to be something in there.

"Bones? Ugh!! No thanks. Bones usually mean someone's DEAD." said Frank.

Jori-well I"ll go check it out, in the mean time you scout out that new guy that arrived, see if he has anything we can get, hell the cave could lead to a new hiding spot should this ever get compromised*

"Sure thing boss." he joked, calling him that.

Later on they went on to divide and conquer their plans.
